MiniECMO is a portable extracorporeal membrane lung oxygenation (ECMO) for Asian nurses. The design reduces the overall size to half by combining the power pump with the main unit of the testing system and utilizing the weight of the main unit itself to complete the counterweight for the smooth operation of the power pump. The "X" ring stand serves as a support and anchorage, with one end supporting a multi-angle comfort grip and the other becoming a fixed position for the oxygenator. Asian nurses who are relatively small in stature can easily lift it with one hand, carry it and quickly travel to the scene.
Most of the ECMOs on the market are designed for European and American medical care, with large volume and weight and relatively poor portability. MiniECMO is aimed at the above problems for the Asian medical user population and first aid scenarios. Design by integrating the power pump and the main detection system to achieve smooth operation of weight, volume and mass reduction to improve the portability of the transfer process; The X ring stent design can realize a variety of membrane compatible installation, while realizing the functions of holding, carrying and fixing, so as to cope with the operation room, ambulance and other emergency scenarios.
We utilize an "X" shaped wraparound design, which draws on the body structure of an octopus and wraps the power pump (organs) with a support frame (foot). One end of the "X" shape opens to support structure which connected to a variety of membrane lungs, the other end closes at the top for holding. The overall shape breaks the traditional integrated shape, wrapping the internal core through the external frame, and then through the side suspension components to present the aesthetics of stable strength. Aluminum alloy and ABS material are used for manufacturing, through their contrast together to create a sense of professionalism and strength of the product.
ECMO consists of a power pump (artificial heart), oxygenator (artificial lung), oxygen tubing, endovascular cannula, connecting tubing, and monitoring system. MiniECMO is spatially integrated to ensure the smooth operation of the oxygenator by utilizing the weight of the testing system itself as a counterweight for the power pump (artificial heart). Its most important features are its ease of installation, lifting and mobility. Oxygenators (artificial lungs) can be quickly replaced by healthcare workers using the open support system, and can be held in one hand using the closed support to enable mobility in a variety of treatment environments.
The uniqueness of this project centers on its product positioning for the Asian market, based on which it demonstrates goodwill towards users in complex healthcare scenarios. Under the premise of ensuring professional operation, the design team made a subversive reorganization of the product's structure, so that the mini-ECMO product compared to similar reduced by half the volume. Contextual design theory to guide the design, the design from the function, man-machine, cost, appearance, feasibility of the five dimensions of the design, so that the functional layout of a reasonable, improved space utilization, clear lines easy to store, showing a breakthrough understanding of the ECMO product. ECMO product breakthrough understanding.
The mini-ECMO is designed to reduce energy consumption in packaging and logistics by reducing the volume and weight of the product. The design realizes the replaceability of product components by designing a structural device that is easily compatible with a variety of lung membranes. Furthermore, the design also reduces the physical wear and tear of the product by using a more robust overall frame structure to extend the life cycle of the product as a whole.
