I was geeking out over Miró’s “cosmic fragments” while painting this — this isn’t a “painting”; it’s a cracked corner of the candy universe: magenta stardust wrapped in sugary wind, cats clinging to royal blue candy meteorites, even the big cat’s grin is an unsealed sweet gap in the cosmos. It’s like I squatted in the universe’s cranny, gathering all the leaked sweet crumbs into a small world.
I’ve always thought the universe’s sweetness is too “grand”: galaxies are sugar-coated light, nebulas are unstirred fudge sauce — but the best sweetness is always the crumbs leaked in the corners: the half-melted candy in your pocket, the soft candy a coworker slipped you during overtime, those “sweet bits the universe didn’t pack properly.” So I made this piece “chase corner sweetness” on purpose: letting kittens ride tiny planes on candy meteorites, turning candy tins into small houses — just like Miró said “the universe’s secrets hide in fragments.” This isn’t “painting the universe”; it’s me piling all those “secretly picked sweet crumbs” into a wild corner for cats, even the wind tastes like fruit candy.

Matisse said “Color is floating sweetness,” so I smashed trembling pinks and blues onto the canvas — these aren’t “backdrops”; they’re “sweet crumbs” leaking from the candy universe. We all should be the cats in this cranny: no need to chase the grand galaxy’s sweetness, just squat on meteorites to nibble candy, pile leaked sweet crumbs into our own small world. After all, the best sweetness is never “the universe’s pre-packaged sugar galaxies”; it’s “gathering corner crumbs to pile into full-screen madness.”
