This is the story. When Apollo wanted to rape Daphne, she fled. Exhausted from being pursued by Apollo, she begged her father Peneios to change her form, which Apollo enchanted. Her limbs then froze and she turned into a laurel tree. The laurel had been safe for Apollo ever since.
