-The origin of the candy is unclear, but fudge dates back to at least 1886. The exact origin and origin of the fudge is still debated, but some believe that the term "fudge" appeared on a batch of clumsy caramels earlier, eliciting an exclamation of "Oh Fudge!" Most food historians believe that fudge was invented in the United States.
-It was quick to point out the similarities between gummies and Scottish dessert tablets. Tablet computers are mentioned earlier in the Genealogies of Lady Griesel Bailey, written between 1692 and 1733. Tablets are made the same way as gummies, by boiling sugar, milk, at 235 to 240 degrees Fahrenheit (113 to 116 degrees Celsius), until they reach the soft-ball stage, when the mixture is removed from the heat and cooled. Crystallization occurs in tablets, but large crystals form, giving the candy a grainy and crumbly texture, It's a far cry from the soft, smooth texture of gummies.
-Emelyn Battersby Hartridge documented the sale of gummy candy, writing a letter in 1886 saying that a classmate's cousin had sold it in Baltimore for 40 cents a pound. In 1888, while studying at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, Ms. Hartridge wrote that she had made as many as 30 pounds of gummies for high-end auctions. Gummy candy quickly became popular at Vassar, and before long, recipes for the dessert began appearing at other women's colleges. Smith and Wellesley College adapted the so-called original recipe into their own version.
