在世界多极化、经济全球化、文化多样化和社会信息化潮流的背景下，各个国家、地区之间的联系和依存日益加深，但不可避免的也会面临许多共同挑战；而面对全球性的错综复杂的形势和问题，任何国家都不可能独善其身，亟需一种以应对人类共同挑战为目的的全球价值观意识形成，构建人类命运共同体（a Community of Shared Future for Mankind）。作品“共同体”以197个国家的国旗为主要表现元素，传达人类命运相连的意义。
