Through The Forest

“Through The Forest”，中文直译”穿过森林“，是我出版的第一本原创绘本，于2022年春天在英美上市。以下为内页节选。

这个故事描绘了一个小男孩，在幽暗的森林里迷了路，林中他遇到了一个叫做”空“的巨人，于是他们同行，一起在途中发现一件又一件散落在林间的，男孩已经遗失的物件，每一个物件都带回一个记忆，有开心的也有不幸的，这些物件逐渐填满了空空如也的巨人，也最终指引男孩找到出去的路。

这个故事是一个关于”失去“与”成长“的寓言，灵感来源于我很亲近的一位朋友的经历。无论是小孩还是大人，总会有感到迷失和悲伤的时刻，这样的时刻，也许可以让过去的你来帮助你。人的所有经历，正面或负面的，都造就了现在的你。这些记忆会指引你，追寻什么放弃什么，在人生的旅程中往前，穿过一片又一片森林。

这本书的插画风格受到中国传统水墨画的启发，有大量留白，一是为了符合这个故事的气质，二是希望给读者以想象空间。颜色的运用上，最初是单调沉重的，每当他们在林中找到一个物件，就会增加一个颜色，到最终可以看到恢复生机，色彩鲜艳的森林，景色变得开阔，也从冬天变为春天。

最后我想提的是，这本书里隐藏了一条给成年读者的故事线，故事里的小男孩其实已经长大，这片森林就是他的内心，林中遇到的空壳巨人，就是他心中的空虚感。

Through The Forest is my debut book as an author and illustrator, the story is about a little boy lost in a deep, dark forest, who along the way encounters a giant named Emptiness, and together they go searching for a way out.

As they walk through the forest the boy finds keepsakes scattered throughout, as he picks up each one he recalls a memory. Some are happy, and some are sad. As the keepsakes fill up inside the giant, they help the pair find a way through the forest.

The story is about feeling lost and growing up, whether as a child or an adult, there are always moments of feeling lost and empty, and at times like these, it is important to remember the memories of your past, whether good or bad they are a part of who you are, and will be able to guide you through the forests of your life.
