All shape and size - Gender equality

/ Introduction

No one gets to choose how you exercise other than you. Your body, your call. And whatever that looks like, we think it's worth celebrating. We do this by providing expertise, insight and funding that improves the nation's long term physical and mental health.

Based on three types of data on women's travel in the UK, I represented women in six age groups through six layers of the acrylic board of different colours and sizes.

The lines on each acrylic board represent different data, which are purpose, mode and distance of travel. Define the length of the line according to the size of the data. The acrylic panels are shaped like petals, representing women through flowers.

Based on how many hours that women doing activities per week, I divided the data into three categories -- active, fairly active and inactive. So I designed three clocks and three different shades of blue for each group. Then different activities are represented in different shapes and sizes. I selected seven categories of activities as data and visualized them with different shapes, sizes and colours. The sports I choose are cycling, walking, running, swimming, fitness activities, a gym session and sporting activities. But also ride for leisure and sport, ride for travel, walking for leisure and walking for travel.

The reason why I choose these kinds of activities is that some women have no time to exercise due to the pressure of work and life. To improve this phenomenon, the activities I choose are easy to achieve in daily life. For example, ride your bike to and from work one day a week, or get off the bus at the bus stop two stops early and walk home. These simple activities encourage women to pay more attention to their mental and physical health.

In final outcome, each string represents a different activity duration and activity category.
