Parallel Universe
The banal, the quotidian, the obvious, the common, the ordinary, the infra-ordinary, the background noise, the habitual?[…] How are we to speak of these common things, how to track them down, how to flush them out, wrest them from the dross in which they are mired, how to give them meaning, a tongue, to let them, finally, speak of what it is, who we are.
-- Georges Perec, Species of Spaces, 1974
As we all know the mass media never fails to produce a flow of utilitarian instructions, advice and even role models through daily news, advertising and all that jazz.
The everyday objects comprise the common ground of everyday life. When the objects are restricted to things one judges to be good or beneficial. Our connections with them are merely depending on the instant profit. They become the unnoticed, the overlooked and the invisible. But the bond between people and objects has always been filled with powerful and unspoken sentiments going well beyond functional expectations. Our minds and imagination could be captured by these everydayness.
As artist, my practice deals with the notion of dragging the everyday back into view, giving voice to those silenced by our dominant world, using art as a median to represent and engaging with the quotidian.

But if we slightly tilt the angle of camera just a little bit. it then turn into this. I think this expression pretty much says how it feels about my intention of getting rid of it. I’m actually ok with a funny face in the bathroom.
So by a simple tilt of the camera, suddenly, the function is no longer the only criteria for me to judge this object.
From this, I have a question for myself: What drove me to believe at the first place that the entire value of this object depends on its utility?
但如果稍稍扭转一下相机的角度,便是这样的结果。于是对于这两个钉子的存在,我欣然接受了。同时也不禁自问:为什么我先入为主地把实用性作为衡量事物的唯一标准?

忍者之瓶
Ninja Bottle
This one i would like to call it a ninja bottle, cos from where i spot the red cap, i could barely see the bottle. Maybe it is because I'm short sighted of course, but at that moment it’s so weird this thing floating in the air. After i got closer, I realised i found myself a ninja.
Suddenly it becomes a object with character that i can almost imagine it intentionally stand in silence and blend itself perfectly into the background.

自杀现场
And, as i continue my observation. I realise it doesn't just stopped at the form of appearance to resemble an other object. When putting different objects together, they can even transform the whole surrounding environment or scenery through different perspective, which allows more latent and intangible meanings to appear.
For example I got this crime scene of two suicide towels. When you look into the window you can see these children’s clothes peaking from inside if they were gathering around and see whats happening.

In that sense, an lifeless common object might be similar to a “human being”. Because we see ourselves in them. Our minds and imagination could be captured by these everydayness.
That is where the observation of every object developed to a new level that they starts to project emotions, relationships, facts and reality. And the content varies depending on who's the viewer.
The screw fits perfectly in the small gap. Without it, it’d be farfetched to say this looks like a breast. Does this combination of the object reflect anything about feminine to you? To me it speaks of two sides of a woman, both soft and strong, as a complete.
