 「沒有誰能像一座孤島，在大海裡獨居。每個人都像一塊泥土，連接成整塊陸地。」
"No one can live alone in the sea like an island. 

Everyone is like a piece of earth, connected to the whole land. 

你是孤島，可又是誰的依靠? 

其實我們從不否認我們如同一塊泥土，連接著整塊陸地。但是我們也願意相信，在很多時候我們都如同一座孤島，在無盡的海域里傾聽著自己的心跳，凝望著自己的命運。 
You are an island, but who depends on you?
In fact, we never deny that we are like a piece of earth, connecting the whole land. But we also want to believe that in many cases, we are like an island, listening to our heartbeat in the endless sea, gazing at our destiny.

雕塑家徐升在海邊長大，海浪、島嶼、岩石......一切與海相關的事物被聯繫起來......

The sculptor grew up by the seaside, thus waves, islands, rocks... everything related to the sea is connected......

雕塑家因塑造的「千層浪」作品而被人所熟悉，這一次他用延續海給他的感覺，用雕塑的語言，海島的意向來解讀茶器，塑造一座「孤島」，平靜的海面，兩座島嶼隔海相望，似乎永遠都沒有連接的可能。但是在這件茶器中，還隱藏著一個秘密:突出的「島嶼」部分和「海面」使用的都是同一種材質——玄青石，「孤島」是經過手工雕琢而成的原石狀態，平坦廣闊的「海面」則是深度拋光工藝，一種原材料呈現兩種極致效果，像極了彼此的前世今生，在別人看不到的地方相互依存。 
The sculptor is well known for his work of "A Thousand Waves". This time, he depended on the feeling of continuing the sea to him,the language of sculpture and the intention of the island to interpret tea utensils and created an "isolated island". On the calm sea, the two islands look at each other across the sea, and it seems that there will never be a connection between them. But there is a secret hidden in this tea set: the exposed "island" part and the "sea surface" are made of the same material - basalt.The "isolated island" is the original stone carved by hand, and the flat and broad "sea surface" is by deep polishing process.One kind of raw material presents two extreme effects, like each other's past and present, in the invisible place,they are interdependent.

The Little Prince said, 「What is essential is invisible to the eyes.」 

我們每人都可能成為那條化身孤島的鯨，但你又是否做好了儘管自己發出的頻率不被回應，仍能在不被人解的寒夜裡激情燃燒的準備? 是否能夠肆意起舞，以答謝那短暫的歲月？

Each of us may be the island whale, but are you ready to burn passionately in the cold night without being understood, even though your frequency is not responded to?

 Can you dance freely to thank those short years? 

我們都知道約翰·多恩說過的那句 「每個人都不是一座孤島」，卻不知下一句是「一個人必須是這個世界上最堅固的島嶼，然後才能成為這個大陸的一部分。」 

We all know John Donne's saying, "Everyone is not an island," but we don't know that the next sentence is, "A man must be the strongest island in the world before he can become part of the continent." 

可我們每個人最後又都會發現，成為「孤島」是一種蛻變，當你堅韌挺拔到只能獨自眺望遠方，狂風暴雨襲來的時候，你的羽翼下，卻能庇護著每一份你想要呵護的柔軟。

而他們，是你力量的原點。  

But each of us will eventually find that becoming an "isolated island" is a transformation. When you stand firm and can only look at the distance alone, when the storm strikes, under your wings, you can shelter every piece of the softness you want to care for.

And they are the source of your strength.  

孤島，從來都是依靠。

Isolated islands are always dependence.

鏡面、淨面、靜面 / Mirror, Neat and Static

玄青石打磨成鏡面，倒映出「孤島」也倒映出你自己；

素淨的器面，是設計師內心的寂靜地遠方。

這件作品最根本的意義，

是生活在雕塑家內心深處的、孤島之外的地方......

The basalt is polished into a mirror, reflecting the "island" and yourself. 

The plain surface is the quiet distance of the designer's heart.

The fundamental meaning of this work, is somewhere lives deep inside the sculptor

and outside the island...

目光所及，都是如水的靜，

這是經過匠人師傅千百萬次嘈雜的打磨聲之後的寧靜，

閉上眼睛用手、用心去觸碰，

你會見這件作品最動人的地方。

As far as you can see, is all as static as water.

This is the tranquility after millions of noisy polishing by craftsmen.

Close your eyes and touch with your hands and heart.

You will meet the most touching part of this work.

欣賞這件作品最好的方式是平視，因為我們只有平視自己的內心，才能平視這個世界。

The best way to appreciate this work is to look at it horizontally, because only when we look properly at our own hearts can we look fairly at the world.

徐升/ Xu Sheng

新銳雕塑家，中央美院和巴黎美院碩士畢業，《反觀雕塑》撰稿人，《雕塑的語言》譯者，著作《徐園》等.

Emerging sculptor, master's degree from China Central Academy of Fine Arts and Paris Academy of Fine Arts, author of Reflection of Sculpture, translator of The Language of Sculpture , and author ofXu Yuan.

「王式廓」獎獲獎者，馬爹利「未來藝術英才」提名藝術家，多次獲得全額贊助赴歐美、日、印度、伊朗等地訪學，其中2013騰訊藝術基金特等獎赴京都市立美術學院

2015年西班牙塞維利亞大學訪問學者

2016年赴德國柏林駐留創作

現生活創作於北京。

The winner of the "Wang Shiguo" Award, Martell's "Future Artistic Talents" nominated artists, has many times won full sponsorship to visit Europe, America, Japan, India, Iran and other places. Among them, he won the 2013 Tencent Art Foundation Special Award to the Kyoto Municipal Academy of Fine Arts.
