This was supposed to be a product design project. We went to a local primary school with the algae clay developed by NSCAD University and designed a set of toys through interaction with grade 2 students. However, because of the pandemic, our weekly interaction with the kids stopped, and the development of the product remained at the ideation stage.

INTERACTION WITH KIDS | 开发过程

We went to the school a day per week and play with the kids with algae clay.In multiple interactions, we found that we gain better feedback when we gave them we strip-like tools such as sticks and straws — they were able to create more forms (as opposed to beads and cubes).Therefore, we wanted to design a toy without fixed structure composed of seaweed clay panels and dowels (alginated).

In addition to the normal algae clay, our lab also added red clay to the seaweed mud, with the intention of changing its properties. Therefore, I created the character Rosie.
